1. I am leaving to travel to Ireland in a couple weeks! I have not traveled to another country in years and I am feeling pretty nostalgic at the moment.  So I decided to post some incredible lush landscape pictures from when I was living in South Africa.  I love that place and I hope to go back soon. Sigh.

  2. There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered. - Nelson Mandela

  3. Among the many relationships that define the human condition, the individual’s connection to the environment is primary.  We worship and loathe it, sanctify and destroy it.  Birth, death, and all that is graceful and vicious between, sit comfortably within the natural “web.”  We also bloom and rot on its vast matrix, but the combination of our ambition and gifts makes want more than to simply survive.  We aspire to leave our mark, inscribing our observations and gestures within the landscape, attempting to translate and transgress the space within which we find ourselves.  (Kastner & Wallis, 1998, p. 11)  Land and environmental art.

This picture was taken during my many hikes in the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg mountains, KwaZulu-Natal, S. Africa.  I really miss that place.
